Download

Download the latest BLAG release, 90001.

You can download it with your web browser, an FTP client, or bittorrent. It is preferred to use bittorrent, if you know how to use it because this saves BLAG's bandwidth.

If you can't burn a CD or don't have the bandwidth to download it:

Burn CD

There are a number of applications that burn ISO images to CD. If you are running BLAG or another GNU/Linux distro, this command should suffice:

cdrecord -pad -dao -data BLAG-90001.iso

Or perhaps:

cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -pad -dao -data BLAG-90001.iso

Windows Users should see Burn BLAG in Windoz.

Boot CD

Reboot your computer with the BLAG CD in the drive. You may need to go into your computer's BIOS to tell it to boot from CDROM. BIOSes are different--try hitting ESC, F2, F12 or DEL at boot to get into the BIOS.

Here you can specify options to the installer. For example, use this on old computers to do a text mode install:

linux text

Or, you can do a blag automajick install. Press F6 for more details.

Mediacheck

Here you can verify that your media is good media. If your installation CD fails the mediacheck, please burn another CD: your installation is unlikely to go well.

Upgrade or Install

Those who have previously installed BLAG can upgrade from a previous release (including alphas and betas).

Partition

Most users will want to auto-partition here.

Custom Partition (1)

Select this option to create your own custum partition layout on your disk(s). New users may prefer to use the layout automatically created by the Blag CD. See Autopartition below.

Autopartition

Make sure you do not overwrite another operating system here unless you are absolutely sure you want to. You will lose your previous operating system if you overwrite it. This is very important.

Partition Confirm

Once again, be sure that you do not overwrite anything you do not want to.

GRUB

You will most likely want to use the GRUB bootloader and can set a password for it.

There are a number of boot parameters that you can specify here. This example enables small, clear fonts for virtual terminals. It also greets you a colour Tux logo when you boot the machine

Root Password

Make sure that you choose a good root password. It should be at least 10 characters and should contain lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols.

GNU GPL

Your box has rebooted and it's now running Blag GNU/Linux. Read and agree to the terms of the GNU General Public License (from the Free Software Foundataion). This is what makes Blag free software. There is no proprietary code on the Blag CD and your box is now free :)

Firewall & SELinux

BLAG does not enable SELinux on install. Some legacy applications do not work with SELinux. If you wish to enabled it in the future, you can run

system-config-securitylevel

Create A System User

Enter details for a regular user. This account is used for day-to-day computer usage and not for system administration.
